January Bookhaul + Birthday Presents

January is my birth month. This normally means I splurge a little bit and buy myself some presents. This year I'm a bit behind on that tradition, I decided to wait until after my birthday and I'm only now deciding what I want to get for myself. That doesn't mean there weren't any presents, because I got a ton of perfect gifts from the Boy. Not to brag, but he gave me some awesome gifts!

NL // Januari is mijn verjaardagsmaand. Normaal wil dat zeggen dat ik voor mijzelf een budget voorzie zodat ik mij een beetje kan laten gaan. Dit jaar moet ik dat budget nog bepalen + spenderen. ik besloot namelijk te wachten tot na mijn verjaardag, zodat ik niet per ongeluk iets zou kopen wat het Vriendje al gekocht had. En die kans zat er dik in, want het Vriendje kocht een gigantische stapel boeken voor mij. Aangevuld met nog een paar andere even geweldige cadeautjes. De kans bestaat dat deze post een beetje "omg, ziet wat ik nu gekregen heb" wordt, maar dat is omdat ik gewoon super blij ben met mijn cadeautjes!

Ok, this first one isn't a gift. I bought Illustrators Unlimited for myself after I lent it for some time from the school library and found it hard to part with it. I had some money on a Fnac member card and I decided to buy it. Otherwise I would never have bought this book, since it's quite pricey. I hope I can use this when I'm in need of inspiration and for reference in my graphic design work.

Illustrators Unlimited kocht ik nog zelf, ergens begin januari, met wat ik had opgespaard op mijn Fnac-kaart. Ik had het boek al eerder eens geleend uit de mediatheek op school, maar ik kon er niet genoeg van krijgen. Onder het motto "dat is voor referentie" deed ik het mijzelf cadeau.

I got seven books for my birthday, all of them where gifted to me by the Boy. He picked 4 graphic novels, one young adult book, one very strange book and one book with pictures. I've read the graphic novels already and I read I'll Give You the Sun on my Kindle a couple of months ago and it's one of my favourite books ever. I'm very glad to have this pretty hardcover edition on my shelves. I'm also very happy I got S and A Monster Calls, because those are books you can't experience on a digital device the way you would when you're reading a physical copy. I'm looking forward to reading those!

Jup, die prachtige stapel boeken kreeg ik allemaal van het Vriendje. Zeven boeken en graphic novels die hoog op mijn wishlist stonden. Ik koop niet snel meer fysieke boeken, tenzij ik ze gelezen heb en zo geweldig vond dat ik er een echte versie van in huis wil of als het graphic novels zijn of geïllustreerde boeken. Die laatste twee zijn leeservaringen die zich op het scherm nog niet zo goed vertalen.

If you're not familiar with S and why this book is so special, I made a little GIF flipping through some of the pages. I've already planned out how I will read this book, all I need is some time, so I'll probably make an attempt this summer.

S is zowat het meest speciale boek dat ik in mijn bibliotheek heb. Ik heb een GIF-je gemaakt van een paar pagina's uit het boek, zodat jullie kunnen zien wat er zo speciaal aan is. Ik kijk er enorm naar uit om een poging te doen om dit boek te lezen. Ik weet al hoe, nu alleen nog een paar rustige weken vinden.

I also got two other presents. Firstly the Boy got me a signed CD of one of my favourite bands ever (Inkubus Sukkubus) and a 23" inch computer screen. I'm so happy with both and the screen was very much needed. I do my graphic design work on my 15" computer screen which makes my eyes hurt (high resolution = tiny buttons in photoshop). The new screen also has way better contrast and the colors are so much better. I love it!

Naast die belachelijke stapel boeken volgenden er nog 2 cadeautjes. Ik kreeg nog een gesigneerde CD van Inkubus Sukkubus (zo een zalige gothic band en zo ondergewaardeerd) en een 23" inch scherm om aan mijn laptop te hangen. Photoshoppen op mijn 15" deed gewoon pijn aan mijn ogen (iets met een hoge resolutie en mini knopjes in het programma) en dus is dat nieuw scherm echt wel het beste cadeau ooit. Geen oververmoeide ogen meer en bovendien worden de kleuren van mijn werk nu nog beter weer gegeven. Dikke whoop!
